The University of Utah encourages all students to consider study abroad as part of a well-rounded university education program.  Several factors influence students' decisions about whether to study abroad, but having a wide range of academically focused programs available for students to choose from enhances both motivation and capability to study in foreign countries.  Faculty members and departments throughout the University therefore play a key role in increasing study abroad participation by developing and sustaining challenging and stimulating study abroad experiences.  The information here is designed to assist faculty members in developing study abroad program proposals for submission to the International Exchange Committee (IEC).  The IEC approves and periodically reviews study abroad programs to ensure that they contirubte to the educational mission of the University.

Additionally, the Office of International Education and Study Abroad awards Study Abroad Development Grants to faculty members during spring semester each year.  These grants of up to $3,000 are designed to assist faculty members with travel and other expenses involved with the initial setup of a study abroad program.  An announcement with detailed requirements for the grant proposal and submission deadline is generally posted in November for grants to be made the following spring.
