International Studies Major/Minor
The International Studies Program, established in 2003, allows Univeristy of Utah students to obtain an interdisciplinary degree that provides descriptive, analytical, and methodological tools for understanding global issues and their national and international impact. Administratively, the International Studies major and minor reside in the college of Humanities, which appoints a Program Director. The College of Business and College of Social and Behavioral Science provide program support, and courses are selected from the existing University of Utah curriculum.

When the University of Utah Board of Regents approved the International Studies Major and Minor, they also provided for an International Studies Board (ISB) to serve as the Executive Committee of the program. The ISB is administered by the Office of International Education. Its membership includes faculty from the three colleges that provide the core curriculum for the program (College Humanities, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the David Eccles School of Business) and may include faculty from other colleges who teach courses that are part of the major.
The ISB serves as the faculty advisory body to the International Studies Director. The ISB reviews and approves proposed changes to the major and minor and forwards them to the three core college Curriculum Committees for final approval (all three colleges must concur before changes are implemented). The ISB also serves as the focal point for program reviews and other activities that would normally be performed by departmental faculty in a non-interdisciplinary program.
